Crazy! She/you must have been freaking out.
Mumsey responded August 29, 2008 at 8:02AM
Uhoh! One solution (as I'm sure you talked with them very sternly) would be to leave the sitter a key which she/he gives back to you when you return home. Although it sounds like they are pretty clever, and might come up with something new! At least they have a 'sense of humor'

the good thing was it was midday, another au pair was with her and I was at the neighbors...and yes, you're right, I should at the least stash a key for her to have outside...they thought they were pretty clever...

I agree that they were being naughty. But I feel that's expected of boys ...isn't it? That's what I like of boys too. Waiting for Ben to get a little older...

Oh don't even get me started on this. Hannaford - yes I will call them out does this too. I refuse to buy their organic stuff because the veggies always look like crap since they were shipped from god knows where and the fruit and other veggies are wrapped like you said. Stupid, stupid stupid. What gets my goat even more about Hannaford is they have this line of organic products now under the name Natures' Place Organic. Everything from salsa to canned beans etc. BEWARE. I was buying their cans of black beans and pinto beans and my friend noticed one day the bottom of the can of black beans said PRODUCT OF CHINA. "F" that. I am NOT buying food from china just because you slap an organic sticker on it. They are only in this organic game for the money. That is totally crap in my opinion. I am so sick and tired of it all. What should you do? Write a letter, don't buy the products, spread the word. Let's make a stink!

Diggin the motherhood gig
that is a pointless measure! The company could save money as well! But packaging in general gives me facial ticks. I HATE buying toys where you need to be houdini to get the dang thing out, and throwing out the packaging takes up your entire garbage can. Is it really necessary?
Mumsey responded August 26, 2008 at 10:43AM
I think it's important to: 1. tell the grocery store your concerns (packaging is pretty danged damaging to the environment and sending food from China? Their quality control STINKS!) 2. Write the the PRESIDENT of the food store chain (you should be able to find the address online via Google) and you'll at least get a reply. 3. Let all your friends know and get them to speak to the store as well. Or drop a suggestion into a suggestion box. But speaking out does change things!
dustbunny responded August 26, 2008 at 11:31AM
this one does really make me irritated...I'm paying extra for no chemicals, not the trays made in china with chemical molds, right?THANKS FOR YOUR IDEAS! I just knew everyone else must be thinking....what are they thinking?

So the kids are starting to dread and brace for earlier bedtimes and reading schedules. The moms are getting eager for some peace and quiet and I’m wondering where did summer go? Are you feeling like it’s time to get moving or that time moved too fast?
I feel like I still need 2 months of hot weather and downtime to get my summer groove on. I’ve got a fourth grader, a prekindergarten and a 2.5 yo.
Over all, I wish we had had more lake time this summer. Bummer…
rockergirrl responded August 18, 2008 at 7:07AM
I think if we actually had more than 2 nice days this summer I would feel ready. Between the rain, thunderstorms and tornado watches in New England the summer basically blew. I don't feel ready for school. In one sense I do because I am a bit ready to have a change in our daily routine but I am finding I am having the end of summer "there are so many things we haven't done". I wanted to go to the skate park (at least once) I wanted to go to the lake (more than 2 times) blah blah blah.
Sticky_Mommy responded August 18, 2008 at 8:50AM
I too am having summer regrets and trying to cram things in before my DD starts pre-school. This weekend we went to 6 Flags, which is one of our summer traditions, and next week we're going to the fair, but I wanted more water time. I think we only filled the kiddie pool 2X this year!
vtmomof2 responded August 18, 2008 at 9:13AM
Life is crazy but wonderful.
This summer was awful. It was nice this weekend though. I was able to finish my yard sale, which is something I wanted to do this summer. It would have been nice to have gone camping at least once, we wanted to go but the weather didn't cooperate very well. The kids are ready to go to school and so am I. It has been a busy summer, but not a nice one. We didn't too many fun things. We went to the beach a couple of times with my parents. The bad part is that as soon as school starts so will our actual summer. It will be hot and humid as soon as the kids are in the classroom.

Ok, so I bought "mini" ice cream sandwiches because I didn't want to eat an entire dessert...but I did want something sweet- I lost my voice so my throat loves the idea of cold tasty treats. Anyway, I went for 2 walks today and made salad for dinner. Mind you, I never said I was on a diet...but I'm tired & cranky and had a hankering for an ice cream sandwich.Well, guess what my hubby said as I asked my 4 yo to toss me a mini.."oh, stick with the will power, you went on two walks, ate healthy and that won't make you feel better." echo, slow motion, screetching record coming to a halt...silence. pin drop...you get it.what?"I mean you don't need that."Oh really...I'm almost 31 and miserable and I want a friggin ice cream sandwich...step away and run for it, DUDE.needless to say, I'll be finding another sleeping location. that did not help my mood. or my willpower. thanks dear...now, where's the bon-bons and vodka? lol

Pretty deep for ANY age! One of my favorite kid quotes happened when we were overseas. A young girl asked her Mom (my friend) "Mommy, what's puberty?" Her Mom kinda hemmed and hawed, then said "It's when you can bear children." The daughter answered "Oh, I can bear children alright, it's adults I can't stand." Aren't kids grand?!

We have been really bad about this. Maybe a couple of times a year. Not good at all. I don't yet trust the teenage babysitter concept yet so that makes it an issue.
Sullysmama responded August 1, 2008 at 11:21AM
We started to notice our relationship was getting rocky when our son was about 18 months old. We decided it was time to take care of "us" first for awhile. If we aren't good, then the kiddo suffers too right? So we made room in the budget for a date night every month. We're lucky enough to be part of a babysitting co-op with a bunch of friends where we swap kids one night each month. It's great because Sully can have a friend come over and play for the evening, and parents get to go out on a date. It's free and it's reliable (I mean you're dropping your kid off with other parents right?). Sometimes parents will get together and watch 2 or 3 kids at someone's house so they end up having a bbq fun night while the other ones go on double dates. It's really a great system.
Sticky_Mommy responded August 1, 2008 at 11:37AM
I hear you Sullysmama. You have to make time for your relationship (I know, easier said then done). I think of it as if you're going down in a plane crash you have to put your oxygen mask on first, then help others. Help your relationship first and you'll be happier in other areas of your life.My DH and need to do more things together. Even walks or hanging in the backyard after the kiddos are asleep.
vtmomof2 responded August 1, 2008 at 1:41PM
Does doing things together at home count? My hubby and I rarely get out alone together, but we make time for each other every night. We always spend at least one hour together, whether it is watching a tv show or making dessert together, we spend time together each night. We really don't have much money for going out, but I think spending time together doesn't necessarily require going out. Plus we email each other through out the day, if he is busy at work I make sure to send him notes from home so he can read what is going on at home during his breaks. This is also great for when he gets home, he is able to talk to the kids about what happened during the day. I agree the relationship between us is very important for our kids, it gives them the stability that they need.
