Vaccines

Okay we are in a dilemma right now.  DD needs to go get her 4 yr. old vaccines and with everything we have read and heard on the news about aluminum and mercury (as preservatives) in the vaccines that she is to receive, we are nervous for good reason.  I've been in contact with our Pediatrician's office and have received GREAT response and even more information about the vaccines and have been reading non-stop.  The link between autism and these vaccines are a bit nerve wrecking for us. The Mommy alarm has been going off.  DH and I have been discussing it and have decided to sit down and talk to her Pediatrician first before she gets her next set of vaccines.  We are both nervous over everything we have heard.  Some Mother's out there have decided not to vaccinated their children completely.  We WANT HER VACCINATED but if we can get a hold of vaccines that DON'T have mercury or aluminum in them, then those are the one's we wish her to have.  We have a lot more information to find out and talk about.  Also upon reading I found out that a lot of the vaccines now a days have only been implemented since 1998 till now.  Most of these "We" (parents) never received but they demand our children have them.  I'm unsettled.

I'm wondering if any of you have talked with your Pediatrician's about this and what did you find out and which avenue did you take with your child and vaccination?

If your daughter was going to exhibit signs of autism she would have when she was around two years old. That's where the correlation between the vaccines and autism stems from since the MMR vaccine is given right around two, when signs of autism also show up. We did not do MMR since my BIL's first son has autism and just to be on the safe side we decided to wait. We gave him everything else except chicken pox and hepatitis B. I believe you can request vaccines that do not have the preservatives and I also believe some of those preservatives are no longer used. It sounds like your ped is right there with you, which is great. Remember that vaccines are a good thing and the pros far outway the cons, IMO.

another option you have is to split up the vaccines. One of the problems is so many are given at once now and it is a complete overload to the child's body. It is my belief this is one of the problems. To be safe you can opt to have them spread out at different times. I think even 4 at one time is too many.

  Life is crazy but wonderful.

I have had both of my kids completely vaccinated, even the chicken pox vaccine, which is going to be required here for my son to start school. My son had his 4 year old vaccine at his last checkup, and he only had one - the MMR. He was up to date, and I don't think they put those perservatives in the vaccines any longer. I have to be honest, I have never put that much thought into the vaccines. I am a believer in vaccinating because it prevents serious diseases including chicken pox, which can be serious. I trust my pediatrician and I know they wouldn't advise something that is harmful.

Boy I sure am lucky to have such a wonderful Pediatrician. I called again yesterday and asked her every question I could possibly think of and she answered everyone of them in full detail. Since the year 2000 mercury has been REMOVED from the MMR vaccine!!! (Thank God). The aluminum that is in the DTP vaccine HAS TO BE IN THERE in order for the vaccine to get full absorption into the body. The FLU vaccine DOES contain aluminum as a preservative BUT YOU CAN REQUEST that your child gets the Flu vaccine THAT DOES NOT contain aluminum.
Correct ...Autism does rear it's head around age 2 and consequently that is also around the time the MMR vaccine is administered.
We are too full believers in vaccinating, it's just that MOMMY ALARM has been set off by all the news, talk, and reading about Autism vs. Vaccines recently. DH is too very concerned and believes that dd should not receive anymore than the Government recommends...NOT what the Pediatrician recommends.
The RN in charge of the Vaccination Dept. (who I spoke with) even told me that our dd has had all the Federal Government required vaccines and only needs 1 shot to be fully covered until age 11. I am SO RELIEVED. We both are relieved. Knowledge sure is power and brings comfort knowing we are trying to do our very best for our dd (of what we can control) and her health.
I love her Ped. Office. They truly are GREAT. They even told me I was doing the right thing by asking those questions and I was not being over concerned, that it was great I was concerned and involved. I'm happy about that.

I thought they had taken that stuff out of the vaccines. I know I heard somewhere along the way. I read so much about everything, sometimes it gets hard to remember where I read stuff. I agree that you should only get what is required, some of the states require more for school. I know my son only had an MMR this past year, and that was his first one since he was 2, I think. And I think it will be the last one until he is 10 or 11. I know my daughter who will be 11 this year - I can't believe it - has to have two shots this year. I'm still trying to figure out if I should get her to have the HPV vaccine, actually I think I will have her have it, I just am not sure when.
