WE FINALLY DID IT!!!!! HOORAY!!!!

Posted January 31, 2008 at 9:01AM by LatteMommy

WE FINALLY BOUGHT OUR FIRST HOUSE!!!!  Gee witikers it took us long enough.  It's been a long road but we kept our faith that it would happen.  YEAH!!!  We still have a lot to get through before we get the keys.... BUT we are so excited.....Thrilled!!!  DD picked out her room on our first viewing of the house and I think that is what set my heart on this one.  The schools in this town are blue ribbon so we are thrilled about that and also they are within walking distance!

It is a further commute for DH but he feels it is well worth it for our daughter to attend good schools and have a nice home.  I do worry about him being on the road for so long each day.  He will extend his already 45 minute commute to just over an hour (each way).

We are heading off to our Home Inspection after the Super Bowl.

YEAH YEAH YEAH!!!!! WE DID IT!!!!

That is wonderful AND also a good idea from Sticky Mommy about car pooling. DH will also be busy doing house renovation once you settle in so you want him to be in fine shape for that, too. (smile) Congrats again!

  Life is crazy but wonderful.

Congratulations! My hubby and I had to make the same decision when we bought our house. When we first moved here his commute was about an hour each way, then his company moved further away, so now it is just over an hour each way. It takes a little getting used to, but it works out.

CONGRATULATIONS!!! Enjoy your new home. It is so much fun when you have your own home and then to decorate the much larger space is so much fun! I can sympathize with you regarding DH's commute. My husband's commute is over an hour each way. Mine is 45 minutes each way. But it is worth it to be in a nice town with great schools!

Hi,
This is very true I heard it in news from one of our local radios here that our govt has to be extra careful on these cheap imports from china especially clothes because the Chinese are using some strong but cheap chemical in their manufactures. Cheap is expensive and at the same time fatal.

PLEASE DO NOT HESITATE TO PASS THIS MESSAGE TO EVERYONE IN YOUR CONTACT LIST.

  Mommy of 2 Girls!

I read about this a few months ago, and when I looked in my walmart, the exact same flip flops were still on sale. Gross, I have tried not to get any summer shoes like flip flops or sandals made in china, since at least with sneakers I wear socks.

Laying on the Mommy Guilt

Posted January 9, 2008 at 11:09AM by LatteMommy
LatteMommy

Okay, DD is going through yet another phase of temper-tantrums but now is laying things on thick and making me feel horrible.  Saying things in time-out like "you're not a very good Mommy", "I don't like you", "I want my Daddy, not you", "I love you Mommy but just not right now",  "I'm mad at you", "I'm not speaking to you right now", "When you put me in time out you are not being a good Mommy", "your killing me making me stand here in time out", "You are making me cry".

All I can think is that I must be doing something right for her not to like me right now! LOL.

Talk about laying it on thick.  Why did she go in Time Out in the first place..... I told her that she could NOT watch anymore TV today and she started yelling at me.  I told her that it is not nice to yell at me and that was her warning.  If she continued she would be put in time out.  She stood up and swung her arm and hit me in the leg screaming "NO".

So here we are in Time Out.  I'm frustrated and she's mad at me.  Oh the guilt they can make their parents feel.

Yes, my son makes me awful quite a bit when he tells me he does not like me and I am a mean mommy. You are doing the right thing. It makes them stronger individuals in the end. It is good that she is telling you how she feels, though, instead of just screaming at you.

I just heard about the latest on Inside Edition and I just want to say that I'm on Sneaky Chef's side.  I'm glad you decided to seek a lawyer for defamation (etc...).  You have support here.  I think what J.S. said on Letterman was horrible and inappropriate.  I hope things turn out well for you.  We enjoy your ideas and recipes.  Keep up the great work.

Thanks!

update at wits end

well, we did put an offer in and asked for not even 10 percent off the asking price and they denied our contract.  We even countered at a stretch of our finances but still they declined.  We think it was because of the Holidays.  We are hoping they come back to us since nothing else has sold in that neighborhood and we did give them a good offer.  We are just sitting back waiting and trying to be patient, but boy it's difficult.

There is an old Scottish saying: "Patience is a virture, possess it if you can. Seldom found in women, and never found in men!" Ok, so humor may help in this instance, but keep the faith - you'll find exactly what you want. You found a perfect husband, daughter and dog, right?

  Mommy of 2 Girls!

Wow, I am really surprised someone in this type of market is being so stiff on a house price, unless it is brand new, they have no good reason to do so. If they don't budge-neither do you, no fun to be house poor. Don't worry, the best house will be the one you love and for the right price, you are definitely the one at an advantage here :)

Thank you everyone! It definitely helps talking about it (meaning besides just DH and I).
I have Faith, but just frustrated and running out of patience. Some people are just way off their rocker thinking they can ask what they are asking for these houses. It's absurd. We know this lady has to sell her house cause it's court ordered! Yes, we are not your normal first time home buyer dummies. We piss people off cause we are what you call "too knowledgeable" when it comes to being a "first time home buyer". Real Estate agents for example get an attitude cause WE tell THEM what is going on! LOL. My family finds this amusing.

At my wits end

Okay we are striving to buy our first house for about a year now.  There is a house we love and really want but the insane asking prices are just crazy so we've been waiting.  I think my patience is just about caput.  We are so anxious to move and own our first home that I think we are going looney now.  The market is just getting worse and worse but the neighborhood in which we are looking to buy a house in ..... are crazy in their heads asking the amount of money they are asking for jalopies.  now the house that we really love has been taken off the Internet and the sign has come down but the pole that holds the sign is still up and it has NOT sold.  Our agent tells us that maybe the listing just expired.  We know they HAVE to sell.  Our agent works in that seller's office and knows they don't have a contract.  But it is just driving us crazy that it has been taken off the Internet.  But hey that could be a good thing for us too.  We are just really frustrated first time home buyers.  Wish me some more patience please.  I need it.

Why doesn't your agent make an offer? If they NEED to sell, and are having a hard time then maybe they are more willing to take an offer below their asking price. The longer it is on the market the more likely the sellers are to accept an offer.

I agree with vtmomof2. Make an offer, the worse they can do is say no. You can do it!

Mumsey Homepage

  Mumsey responded January 8, 2008 at 12:15AM

Yes, as a recent home seller AND buyer, the market really favors the buyer. Like the others here say, what harm can it do to offer what you can afford (at a stretch), and at least start the conversation? As I've bought and sold 4 houses, it's the personal connection (with your agent, with your buyer) that helps keep things going. Good luck!!

What's Your New Year Resolution?

Posted January 1, 2008 at 9:26PM by LatteMommy
LatteMommy

Well I've chosen to put a few resolutions on my list this year.  (no particular order)

*) Find a  Church that suites "us" and attend more often

*) Buy our first house!

*) I plan to wear a smile on my face more (so people wonder what I'm up too).....LOL

*) Work harder at teaching my daughter new things EVERYDAY.

*) Personally work hard at boosting my immune system so I'm not so sick all the time.

*) Not complain so much.

*) Work with my new camera and learn as much as possible and take college courses with it to get my Photography certification.

*) Work at my Photography portfolio

*) De clutter....getting rid of all the dang paper (fire in the fire place one of these snow storms should do the trick just nicely)

*) Blow the dust off my tread mill by fast paced walking on it!

*) Going through my clothes and actually throwing out the ones that have holes in them and buying myself a few new clothes and shoes.

*) Take our daughter to Disney World for the first time and give Goofy a kiss! :)

*) Go away with just my husband for a weekend to the beach in the SUMMER!

*) Sell more things on ebay that we don't use or need anymore.

*) Oh yeah, get my self in shape (lift some weights and do sit-ups) for my friends wedding in Sept. so that strapless dress looks nicer on me for her pictures.

*) Go horseback riding more often or volunteer once a week at a horse rescue center near here (most likely both)

*) Would love to do this and hope it becomes possible:  Go to CT with my daughter for a week this summer and visit family and finally take my Grandmother to Rhode Island to visit family and where she grew up.  I really hope that happens!

Okay think my list is long enough so far, but I'll keep adding to it.

What are you resolving to do this year?
