Congratulations! From a mom who's son was 10 lb 5 oz c-section baby, I wish you a speedy recovery. Thank God he made it home in time to see his son, may he never have to serve another tour in this war.

First Vet appt.
Posted August 30, 2007 at 1:01PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
Well today is the day DD and I take the pup to the Vet for the first time. Should be an experience seeing DD reaction to everything they will do to Lila today. I found my Vet by asking all the neighbors where they go and pricing. This one hopefully will be a good one.
LatteMommy responded August 30, 2007 at 6:08PM
Well our vet appointment went well. Puppy got her booster shot, nails trimmed, ears cleaned out, microchipped, heartwormed and lots of cookies. They loved her there. I loved them too cause they did a GREAT job looking her over. Was nice to see them take their time with us. As for DD with the whole event....not the greatest as she was a bit of a pill and really didn't like the puppy getting her shots, but we made it through ok. Thank goodness. I went and got myself a Latte afterwards and home to put pup and DD down for a nap. Both asleep...Thankful for my blessings.
Chin Up
Posted August 28, 2007 at 8:46PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
DD is taking Gymnastics and today was her first class. Gosh this is so awesome for her on so many levels. She did a GREAT job, just needs to listen better to the instructor but I think the excitment of the class was overwhelming for her. She bounced for the whole 45 minutes. I thought she would nap right away when we got home but NOPE took a full hour and a half to get her to fall asleep. Oh well at least she napped.
She had to do five chin ups in a row! I need to take Gymnastics again. This would be great for my figure and strength training.

Want to know what is safe for our kids?
Posted August 26, 2007 at 3:16PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
I think I have a solution...saw it on the news....they have these Lead testing kits that you can buy and all you do is rub it hard on the item you have in question and if it turns pink, it should go out with the garbage. As soon as I figure out where to buy them I will post....OR if anyone else knows where to get their hands on them and how much...please let us know.
We are still staying away from all foods from China and really trying to buy only US foods, especially organic.
Since we got Lila (our puppy), I've been asking our neighbors what Dog Foods they give their pets. They all say stay away from food that is red in color cause the dye can make the animal sick and to buy only food and toys made in the US. OMG....try buying animal toys that are only US made. That is a tough one. Kong is US, that's about it that we saw in the Pet store. And stay away from those "chews", they are from China and are not good at all. Also Greenies, cause the animal cannot digest it and can die from them. Want to clean your pets teeth....give them baby carrots! They are great and good for them. Our puppy knows the drawer that we keep them in in the frig and she tries to climb in it! LOL.
Love to hear your stories!

What comes from getting a puppy?
Posted August 22, 2007 at 11:19AM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
They are two-peas-in-a-pod. It is day 3 and Lila is already walking well on the leash because of my daughter. This has been an awesome thing we have done for DD. She is so happy with her puppy. With a puppy comes learning...responsibility, love, authority, giving, care, cause and effect, and sharing. They both get their energy out too without wearing Mommy out so much....he he he he....love it.
the puppy is doing great with potty training too. so far she does not whine much and also she sleeps through the night. yup, we are lucky so far. :)

This is such a special day for me to remember
Posted August 19, 2007 at 2:06PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
Today was (or should I say this morning) extra special for me to remember because my daughter who is 3 years 5 months old wrote (all on her own, no tracing or coaching) the word "MOM" !!!!!!! I am so proud of it and I was so surprised. It is proudly displayed on my frig.
I love when she sits down and tries to read books too. She looks at each page and tells her own version of the story. It is one of my most favorite things to do...just sit and listen to her read. She has such a good memory that some books she can almost recite the whole book word for word. It's cool to see how much she is growing up. It happens too fast.

Our little Artist
Posted August 15, 2007 at 11:01PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
Drawings by our DD. She is 3 yr.s 4 1/2 months. We think she's got some great talent and she loves to draw too.
just to let you know that swirlie thing is what she said is a tornado and all those people (us) are watching it. hmmmm? (oh and NO that is not a pee pee on the BIG people person, it is suppose to be another leg) those things that look like ears are actually arms. I love the one to the right upper side of her drawing. Pretty cool, but I'm byist.
ok. the bunny person on the left is kicking a football. the center one is suppose to be me (yup screaming "No, don't do that", then the swirlie thing a tornado again, the bottom one looks like a bike to me and the other ones look like egg heads. Cartoon Artist?
She gets her talent from her Father, not me. I need a ruler to draw a straight line.
Think the tornado thing comes from the warning we had here the week before or the weather channel.
These magna doodles haven't been recalled have they? hope not, they are so much fun.

There are some great resources for wooden toys made here in the US and even in my home state of Vermont.Good luck & keep us posted on your journey!

I agree completely. you just don't know what to do, should I go around with a garbage bag and just throw everything away? I just don't know. I only have one fisher price toy for my son, for his birthday that I'm not sure about, it is a diego playset but it is not on the recall list. I, too, have tried really hard to avoid chinese goods. I don't buy any food from there, like you said though, that I know of. And this christmas is going to have a theme, Made in Vermont. I have already ordered catalogs. Of course I have already ordered some things before I heard all about this, but that will be it.

This is what I do for Mental Therapy...otherwise know as "pushing the reboot button on my brain" "Mommy's Time Out".
Horseback riding is something that I have done since I was a wee one and it's just one of those things in my blood that I HAVE TO DO. With everything going on lately I really needed this so my best friend and I went on a 3 hour trail ride and it WAS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEEDED!. We are sore today, but Oh So Worth It. It was so peaceful out there and we saw over a DOZEN deer!
Me and Quarterhorse "Candy Girl". She is for sale and I would love to buy her, but a house needs to come first.
This is Erika, one of our guides. Her horse's name is Cannon. Sweet horse. Erika lived just a couple towns over from where I grew up (CT). Small world.
My mental therapy buddy in front of me (Jes, my best friend since High School). She is riding Dancer.
blurry picture (what do you expect on horseback..LOL), this was a family of deer...Mama, Papa & Baby.

Another one bites the dust
Posted August 13, 2007 at 11:47AM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
OMG...another guy just gave his two wks. notice at my husbands work today. The schedule he is currently working is crazy enough now! I don't know what's going to happen when they re-work the schedule again. We might not see him for a few months (until they get more people in and get them trained). It is only going to get worse before it gets any better. Hard adjustment on DD and I. We're sucking it up though.
They gave him another week vacation but how the heck can he use it when they don't have anyone to cover it? They refuse to come off any money too (that is why these guys are leaving). Maybe he should really think about going where these others guys are trying to get him to go to. More money, more vacation and a normal work schedule AND they pay for lunch breaks too. Hmmmmm.....need to think on it.
vtmomof2 responded August 13, 2007 at 11:58AM
This is exactly what happened to my husband everybody quit and went to the same place. He was the only one left in his department and worked like crazy by the time he figured out where they went and had a moment they weren't hiring any longer. I'm sorry you're going through this, I know how hard it is. I guess his current company really needs to look at their pay & benefits package when a similar company can steal all of their employees.
Sticky_Mommy responded August 13, 2007 at 2:19PM

Good for you! It feels great owning your car, no more payments. I paid off my car a couple of years ago and it is so nice. Of course it is getting old and isn't so pretty anymore but I always say it works and it is paid for. Nothing better than that. I'm sure everything will be fine, plus a repair is cheaper than a new car.

Crazy work schedule
Posted August 10, 2007 at 2:39PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
ERRRRRR hubby's work schedule is going nutty. Two guys quit and DH has to fill in and his boss is also filling in. Where I say eeeerrrrrrr is that DD is really having a tough time with not seeing Daddy and playing with Daddy. She says she is mad at him cause he won't come home. He has no choice but to cover where needed and try explaining that to a 3 yr. old is tough for her to understand. We were so spoiled before with his work schedule that now with it going nuts, it's harder on her and I.
PATOUIE!
vtmomof2 responded August 10, 2007 at 2:54PM
I know what you mean, a couple of years ago my husband's entire dept quit. He was the only one left with a load of work to do, he was working like crazy 6-7 days a week. The kids hardly got to see him and missed him at dinner time. Hold on I'm sure they will hire some people and it will be better.
Sticky_Mommy responded August 10, 2007 at 2:57PM

Here we are on our way up North to say our final goodbye's to my Uncle and it's only been 20 minutes since we've been on the road and I already miss my DD. Just knowing we won't see her for 3 days is pulling at the heart strings. This is the longest we will be apart and the Mommy Guilt is setting in ALREADY. I told her to call us anytime if she misses us, but she will be so occupied with wearing G&G out on the first day.

You know that she is being well taken care of. There is nothing to feel guilty about, at all. Focus on where you are, who you are with, and try and focus on what you are going to do.If you can just keep the guilt in check, you will find that you will get more out of this trip than you would. You will return a better mom, and who knows, your dd might even say she missed you! LOL!

DD said she missed us so much. It was so good to see her and hug her and kiss her after being away for three days.We sent M&D home with a bottle of wine and sleep. They were whooped. We were too. DD woke at 7am and came in bed with me till 8am then we came downstairs and she had breakfast and she got to watch PBS for a little while this morning while I slept on the couch. I know I was tired cause she told me that I snored! LOL. We are playing school right now and having fun.
Nap Time
Posted August 1, 2007 at 1:05PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
I know I've blogged about this before, but this drives me nuttie.... DD will most definitely takes a nap if I drive around all afternoon... BUT if I wear her out and fill her to the top (if I don't she will not sleep at all) and put her down in her bed for a nap....it's like flip a dang coin to whether or not she'll nap...most of the time she just becomes wide awake. I have taken everything out of her room that I think stimulates her and put up a blanket over the window to make it darker, she has her lullaby music and fan running to drown out noise. I read her a book, kiss her night night and BOOM....SHE'S AWAKE! If I bring her back downstairs she rubs her eyes and is real grumpy. I grumpy too by then so we don't mesh well. LOL.
I just leave her in her room for an hour. If she doesn't nap then I know 5pm will be pure H E double hockey sticks for me. If by some miracle she does take a nap, I don't let her nap more than an hour and a half cause she will be up all night then.
It's hard cause I know she still at 3 yr. 4 mo. needs a nap BAD cause she doesn't seem to be getting enough sleep at night and is up by 7am after going to bed at 9pm and not falling asleep until 10:30pm. Yup, it is a struggle sometimes at night too.
I'm hoping this is just another phase and this too will pass, but dang....I'm whooped and could use a nap too.
rockergirrl responded August 1, 2007 at 1:17PM
oh goodness that is hard. Does she go to bed at 9:00 because of bedtime struggles? My first DS stopped napping at about 3 1/2 but 7:00pm was his bed time. Needing sleep during the day is just something they outgrow so I guess al I can suggest is do as much as you can to give her an earlier bedtime so she is getting appropriate sleep. It will be rough at first but if she just won't sleep during the day after a certain amount of time at her age you might just have to realize she is done with napping and start working on early bedtime. My youngest DS who is now 2 only naps if I rock him until he falls asleep. I could never just put him in his crib awake and expect him to sleep. He just isn't that kid.
Sticky_Mommy responded August 1, 2007 at 1:20PM
I think you're doing the right thing by letting her have quiet time in her room for an hour. At my DD's pre-school they have the kids all lay on mats after lunch. If the kids don't sleep (like mine) then they can read a book. If books aren't working they can play quietly away from the other kids.I really like these two books:Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child: Books: Marc Weissbluth Sleeping Through the Night: How Infants, Toddlers, and Their Parents Can Get a Good Night's Sleep by Jodi A. Mindell
vtmomof2 responded August 1, 2007 at 1:28PM
My son is almost 4 and he outgrew naps a while ago. But from time to time he is cranky and needs to rest, I usually put him in his room and tell him he needs to rest, not necessarily sleep, but rest, he usually falls asleep. Sometimes he falls asleep while playing on the floor or couch while I'm making dinner. When he was about your daughters age he did the same thing, I wanted him to take a nap, but he was just done with taking a daily nap. He used to sit in his room, talking, singing or playing but not sleeping. I really miss the daily nap.
LatteMommy responded August 1, 2007 at 1:35PM
Well, low and behold TODAY she is now napping. So.... night night all. I'm whooped and headin for a nap myself. Thank God, I'm pooped. lol
