Sunrise on the Bay

This was so beautiful. What a nice break from our "baby Stewie". For real, no joke our child has been acting exactly like baby Stewie from the Family Guy, You Tube clip under the video section......
DD: Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama, Mama,
Me: Gosh, What on Earth do you want already......
DD: Well, ya know the frog JUMPED off the couch and the cat just ummmm sat and the Tree's the wave in the wind blows..... Bye (as she darts across the living room flopping into our couch and spinning in circles).
Me: .....just shaking my head....still trying to get those darn dishes done and needing a glass of wine so bad!
anyway.....here are the sunrise pictures:
It's only been four days since this trip out on the Bay and I'm in Need of another...!

I am going to CVS today and buying a bunch of different things to keep on hand like the benadryl after bite and anti-itch cream and calamine lotion cause they are tearing me up. I think I'm going to start drinking lemon juice to make my blood sour. LOL. I wonder if there is some kind of herb that I can eat that would help with this. Think I need to sick my Father-In-Law on this case.

Dangerous Driving...Worst Times to be on the ROAD.
Posted July 30, 2007 at 9:27AM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
i agree with this info about the most dangerous times to drive. the hours of 3-6pm m-f around here are just plan nuts, if you ask me. dd and i make our best effort to stay off the roads during that time. we try and do our running around late am to early afternoon. summer time is bonkers in the stores.
what is it like where you are?

what is with aug. 3 & 4th?
vtmomof2 responded July 30, 2007 at 9:53AM
I agree what is up with aug 3 & 4th? All the other dates make sense but these don't. Of course this is when we are travelling to go camping. One thing I like about living in rural VT, we are right by the Canadian border is that traffic is non existent. People do drive crazy out here though, speed is an issue. I drive very defensively especially with my kids. The one thing that makes me nervous is that I am starting school in Sept and I'm taking night classes 50 miles away and I have to drive at night, it is all interstate but it makes me nervous none the less.

Meal Time Battles....
Posted July 26, 2007 at 6:43PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
WILMom responded July 26, 2007 at 11:02PM
Well, I will admit I don't have a whole lot of experience with this age group. Tricks I have heard of include cheese on veggies (all kids like cheese right?), all kinds of cheeses. Putting a teaspoon of sugar in the water the veggies are cooked in (sometimes even a little difference may change their minds) and next trying "weird" foods that maybe you would NEVER eat yourself, but they may like? (Not unhealthy foods, just unusual) And last; different foods at different times of day, like veggie at breakfast, fruit at dinner...or maybe even blending things into shakes! (Textures make a big difference too) Please let me know what works, my 15 month old is starting to reject old favorites all of a sudden.
rockergirrl responded July 26, 2007 at 11:18PM
My experience with this and the advice from my ped. is to avoid mealtime battles as much as you can. Avoid the "just two more bites, force feeding etc because all it does is create a negative situation around food which just makes the situation worse. My 2 year old DS just turned super picky and pretty much doesn't eat much at dinner. I just came back from his two year old check up this week where his Dr. reminded me of what I have been doing is ok which is this - Provide healthy food for them at each meal. Don't force the eating issue or it will turn worse. Don't become a short order cook for them and don't "sugar" coat foods in order for them to eat them. My kids eat big breakfasts and lunches but very very light dinners so I just make sure those two meals and the snacks in between are as healthy as possible. I also asked my doc about giving a vitamin but she told me she didn't feel it was needed. As long as they are getting some veggies and or fruits they are ok.

I agree with rockergirl. My son will be 4 in august and he isn't really picky, he just doesn't want to eat. I don't force him, I make a healthy dinner and serve it, he either eats or he doesn't. I do notice that sometimes he will eat everything on his plate and sometimes he just picks at his food and doesn't want to eat. I also do the take one bite of everything just to try it. Also, he loves the veggies from mommies garden he always eats those.

Every family has a story, tell yours today www.pagesofalifetime.com
3 out of 4 of my children have been very picky eaters at this age.In all cases, the ped. said don't worry about it. Don't cater to their whims at dinner. Put on the table what you normaly would. If they are hungry, they will eat. Just make sure that you do not replace meals with drinks of milk or juice.Hang in there!
LatteMommy responded July 27, 2007 at 7:24PM
OMGosh! Awesome comments and GREAT advice to help. We try not to do that force food thing and go with the mind track that it only matters what she eats in a weeks time, rather than daily, but it's tough sometimes. My DD is a snack a holic.....Ahhh finally admitting it! LOL. We give her only healthy snacks and she only drinks water and milk and Very Veggie Organic Low Sodium. OJ gives her a butt rash within an hour and I'm just one who doesn't feel she needs to drink juice. My struggle with her is dinner cause if she refuses to eat what we have put in front of her and she says she is fininshed and gets down, it's not even five minutes later she is asking for a snack and complaining that she is hungry. We have sent her to bed hungry and the parent guilt sets in, but in the end she is fine. I will go check out sneakychef and also try the shakes idea. Stickymommy once blogged about frozen veggies....O'soGOOD! Especially broccoli. DD will eat a piece or two. I love frozen carrots.
Safety Tip when Ordering Kids Meals...

well last night neither of us felt like cooking and we are trying to eat healthy, so we decided to go to outback for salad's and steamed veggies. well, dd (3) loves chicken tenders so we ordered those for her. i am so frigin glad i broke them open first before telling her to eat her dinner....
the tenders looked cooked but omg they were frigin raw inside. i was so shocked!
poor girlie was so hungry too from playing hard all afternoon. we quickly ordered her mac-n-chz. glad they got that right.
just a safety tip when eating out....make sure your food is cooked throughly before eating unless you are ordering it raw on purpose. :)
ooouuuuu, i'm still grossed out.

Mmm, I really want Lonestar now...
If they are Quite, You better Go Find Them!
Posted July 25, 2007 at 9:53PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
i tend to parent to the above saying with dd. sometimes she amazes me at how fast she can get into stuff or destroy things, but today was different. i always put the child gate up and don't let her go downstairs while i take my shower in the morning. she usually bothers me quite a bit...that's fine cause i know what she is up too. she has a little cooking set in our room that she plays with too and makes me tea to drink in the shower. mmmmmm tasty.
yesterday and today when i got out of the shower it was just way too quite the whole time, so i quickly wrap the towel around me and go to find her. both days i have found her in her bed reading her books. what an angel.
i'm just wondering if this is a work up of a false sense of security and the big disaster is around the corner. i hear stories from so many parents as to things their child can do with just five minutes of time alone. i just hope dd knows now at age 3 that she would be in big trouble if she did something major......i.e....squirting baby powder all over the room and dogs and then chasing them all around the house...yup, a friend of ours children did this and it only took five minutes to cover the whole house in baby powder! yikes. i like to think of dd as my angel and she would never do such a thing....but hmmmmmm, i'm sure my time is coming too.
got any child created disaster stories to tell of your own?

I covered our house in glitter once... this banned glitter from our home for years to come... i still love it though... so pretty. Um ALSO once when I was about 3 we were having supper (spaghetti) and all of a sudden I felt ill... so I got up from the table and promptly threw up on the floor... then I was upset so I ran away ... my mother chasing me, and threw up all the way up the stairs, my room, her room, everywhere but the bathroom and in every carpeted room in the house. I still get crap for that one. Fortunately my kids are not like their mother.

She's reading! OMG - what a doll. Much nicer then opening the shower curtin or insisting on coming in with you. LOLThis maybe OT, but it's about 5 min alone for me & how I'm a bad parent. When my DD was only a few weeks old I proped her on the couch so I could go to the bathroom by myself. No sooner had sat down did I hear/feel a thud. And silence. Then wailing. For a newborn who won't suppose to move much, she sure did wiggle off the couch quickly. I wanted to throw-up, I felt so bad, and still do!
LatteMommy responded July 26, 2007 at 10:26AM
Oh Gosh, don't be hard on yourself. Us & my inlaws were standing around talking while M'ie was in her walker and we forgot to close the downstairs gate. My Father-in-law was standing right there and couldn't catch her & within one sec. she went for a joy ride down the stairs. Thank goodness there is a landing and she also stayed upright and didn't tip over till she reached the landing. She was perfectly fine. BUT I flipped out and yup it still haunts me till this day. Our gates are locked all the time in the closed position still. She tumbled off the changing table as I had one hand on her and reached for her towel on the rocking chair right behind me. Then when she was an infant I laid her on the middle of our bed (she couldn't roll over yet) and went into my closet to get a shirt (cause she had spit up on the one I was wearing of course) and just in that time frame, I heard that thump and wail. Freaked me out and still don't know how the heck she did it to this day. Those are the only ones that I remember that still stick with me too this day.My Uncle when he was a baby flipped over the rail of his crib onto the hardwood floor and cracked his skull open. That would have sent me to the looney bin.M'ie is good for me now when I take my shower. It's her alone play time and I don't have anything for her to get into and I make sure to listen with a good ear. I have forgotten what I used to do when she was a baby. I think I sat her in her bouncer chair in the bathroom and took speed showers.
A little kids learning computer
Posted July 25, 2007 at 11:48AM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
my daughter got this little vtech learning computer for christmas. i think it is a little old for her right now, but she was playing with it this am. (i took my allergy medicine last "night" so at 11:40 this i am still having trouble functioning. i can take it during the day with no problem, but at night it reacts different. weird.) so lately i've been trying to teach dd (3 yr. 4mo. exact today) left and right. some days she is ok with me teaching her things but she really does better when someone else teaches her. well, i found the game on the kid computer "left and right" and i showed her once with the mouse which was left and which was right. my goodness, she picked up on this so quick and is now running around the house singing "i know it, i know it". lmao!
to tell you how i'm not functioning this am, i played the game with her and i mixed up my left and right once on this kids game and dd told me "that's not right, mommy". lol. she's funny.
i'm gonna go suck down the rest of the pot of coffee i made. have a great day.

SAHM kid activity - Tracing Letters
Posted July 24, 2007 at 3:00PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
i started dd today on tracing letters and words. she is really getting the hang of it at age 3. i'm so proud of her. she is growing up too fast.
we are taking sheets of paper and i write names on them and shapes and things for her to color. then we will send them to family members.
ex. grandma and grandpa. i have her trace those words and also i draw a picture for her to color in. we date it and she folds it and puts it in an envelope and she sticks the stamp on and i write the address and she puts the return address label on and then i have her use the sealer to close it up and we walk to the mailbox together and she puts it in the mailbox.
she is starting to recognize her letters too.
it's fun for both of us.

I AM SO THRILLED & RELIEVED TO BE EXCUSED!
Posted July 23, 2007 at 2:01PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
well, on thursday before we left for our trip up north, i decided to get online and check the status of my federal jury duty summons for the month of august. i had gotten on right after they sent me my summons back in june and registered and also told them that i do not have child care and dd would be coming with me because i had no other choice. i also told them that my nearest child care would be connecticut and that is a little much on me to drive up there drop her off and be there in baltimore, md by 8:30 am and the drive back up and pick her up. kinda impossible.
well, they responded to me in july saying that i was still qualified to serve and to still report on august first. oooouuuuu, i was mad. everyone has told me that is it near impossible to get out of federal jury duty. this really bothered me too and i didn't really realize just how much it did. i had it made up in my head that everyone on trial was guilty and i would stand firm on that.
well, when i checked it (again) on thursday, i finally got the relieve that i had been needing to hear.....you are excused from federal jury duty service and you do not need to report. woohoo! a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders now. thank goodness. i really would have been in a pickle and also whooped if i brought dd (3) with me to the court house all day. dh said he could beg his boss for 1 day off (8/1) so i could go alone that day and explain to the judge my situation. i didn't want him to do that cause my uncle is battling cancer and if the worst happens i need dh to come with me.
yup did the happy dane with dd when i found out! lol.

okay, how many of us dip our children in from head to toe in sunscreen and send them off playing or swimming and having a great time in the sun........... all the while...... you have forgotten to dip yourself in sunscreen and ouch, ouch, ouch, the next day your kid(s) are lecturing you about putting on your sun protection.
happened to us this weekend. we went from pool party to pool party. it was great. dd couldn't get enough. we are so concerned about our dd's safety that we totally ignored what is best for us (typical of us). last night dd patted dh on the shoulder and he winced in tons of pain (red as a tomato). dd (3) said "why did you not put your sunscreen on daddy". lol. we need to set a better example in that department we believe (feel) now. :{
i broke off our aloe plant and lightly rubbed it all over his shoulders and back. he says he feels better today.

STAY IN YOUR OWN LANE!
Posted July 23, 2007 at 12:03AM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
oh my goodness i have a serious problem here.... i am so frustrated when i go out driving anywhere lately. it is scarey especially when dd is in the car with us/me. what the he*l is up with drivers not staying in there own damn lane!!! we were driving back from ct yesterday and another driver (no joke) came about 1 inch from taking off our driver side mirror. dh responded by saying "it's their world and i'm just living in it". ha ha, but it really pisses me off that drivers do this. the whole trip back home we had over a dozen (yup i most likely under estimating) other cars drift over into our lane. even just around town it is bad!
i have heard reports that in the 80's since everyone was driving smaller cars then, when they re-did the roads they made the lanes smaller and now that the suv craze is here, there is no lee-way. i personally don't think that is the main reason of what is causing this, but if that is what makes these officials feel better....whatever.
i believe people are just not paying attention to the roads anymore. cell phone distraction and since commutes are longer people are living in there vehicles more and they are paying less attention to where they are going and how they are driving.
example..... on 684 s. bound almost at 287 junction... we sat in traffic for an hour. when we got up to the crash site there was a vehicle in the tree's that was just mangled metal. news crew was just leaving. dh and i believe who ever was in that vehicle did not survive. there was no way. most likely caused by a drifter and speed in my opinion.
dd was asking us loads of questions as to why the rescue people weren't there and just the cop cars and the camera's. hard explaining that to a 3 yr. old.
it took us a lot longer to get home but we "grandpa'd it" all the way back....all the while dodging those drifters.
thanks for the vent. anyone else feel this way?
vtmomof2 responded July 23, 2007 at 1:23PM
Absolutely! I agree completely. It is awful, I white knuckle it everytime we go anywhere. I think people are distracted. I always go slower than everybody else (I go the speed limit and not over) I am always being passed. Sometimes I am passed on the left when I'm turning left, I don't know how many times I have avoided an accident like this. I always check behind me before I turn now. Everybody is in a hurry.
Smasuzzo responded July 23, 2007 at 3:24PM
omg i hate drivers I hate them... and I know you guys all think we are bad drivers and MASSHOLES but im from Mass and I can't stand stupid people. One of my biggest pet peeves though I hate to say it is the elderly who should NOT be driving any longer. I know its hard to give up your independence but SERIOUSLY... please... for the safety of everyone, if you cant see, you can't walk well... you can't move your arms quickly you should not be driving! In several states they allow people to renew licenses by mail without a vision test...OMG SOOO BAD. My gram had to be retested by NH law this year... I thought it was a great idea... she passed no problem YAY GRAM! I have almost been in several accident due to just plain unawareness... they pull right in from of you and then don't speed up so you almost crash into them... they have also been many of the drifters into my lane and when you toot the horn to kind of WAKE them up they get all scared and I'm afraid Im going to kill them of heart failure.

Do you all like your GPS system if you have one? How does it do with directing you?
Some times I love the thing and then other times I want to throw it out the window and run over it.
My daughter loves repeating what it tells us to do. Also the car driving on the pink road! :)
I love how it tells you an approx. arrival time. That is a nice feature, especially when traveling to my Grandmother's house. She likes it when things are scheduled to a T.
I really dislike how it takes you a round about way sometimes and then you are in the middle of no where land and not a thing in site and feel like if you broke down not a soul would ever find you.

We were going to a park that we knew how to get there and we did find it on the GPS but the GPS directions would have dumped us in an unknown to us location....NOT THE PARK! I do not trust it at all. I like that it will give you an estimated milage and time arrival. I'm sure there are much better ones out there too than the one we have.

That is sooo funny! We did a 3 hour drive this weekend to the In Laws and last night my DD said my butt hurts. When I asked her why she said because I've been sitting her for HOURS!She doesn't know what hours are until she gets in a car ride with you guys! How was your visit?

Update to Re-programming My Child
Posted July 18, 2007 at 9:58AM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
Well, we have seen my in-laws 4 days in a row but last night I saw something different! This made us so happy. G&G didn't get right up and get DD something when she asked~! They do what I do....They waited until DD said "Please" then they listened to her request. DH & I were talking about that on the way home and we are thrilled they are doing this now.
Our goal - to raise a happy, healthy, well-mannered and respectful child. We're trying and glad we have back-up too. :)
DD also pulled a fussing fit at my Mother-in-law. I was not happy DD did this but at the same time I was amazed she even pulled this with someone other than me. We had our typical talk and things were better.
She's already tired this week and we are doing a driving trip this weekend with running all around Kindom Come, so I am preparing myself for utter MELT-DOWNS (from her and I....LOL).... poor DH will have to endure our Melt-downs. OH JOY.

Re-programming My Child
Posted July 15, 2007 at 7:50PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
Does anyone else have to "reset" or "re-program" their child(ren) after they have visited with their Grandparents for a while?
I have to do this each time cause they don't set limits or say No to her and also cater to her every whim.
I really wish they would set some rules and say No once in a while and not let her get away with "Nagging" "Fits" etc... I think DD would respect them so much more if they did.

I tell DD that there are different rules for Grandparent then at home and that one of the things that make Grandparents so special. Also talk to the Grandparent & ask them to repect some of your "house" rules, or threaten them with leaving DD for an "extended" time!ps How did Jury Dudy go?
LatteMommy responded July 15, 2007 at 10:38PM

Splitting Peas

My DD does something that I have never seen or heard of before. She eats her peas but not until she peels the skin off each one of them and then eats just the inside. Takes her a while but she'll eat them all.
Something else! LOL.

Very interesting. I always say whatever gets them to eat vegetables is worth doing.
The TRUE cool Toys!
Posted July 15, 2007 at 7:43PM by LatteMommy LatteMommy
Well tonight DH found a box that his Mother gave to him a while back that she saved all these years from HIS childhood. It is full of the REAL matchbox cars (diecast metal ones). He is showing them to DD tonight and she is just loving it. Boy looking at them it brings me back to when my brother (old than I) and I used to play with matchbox's out in the sand pit at our house. Do you all remember some of the GREAT matchbox's they used to give away with Happy Meal's? He has a bunch of them. Then he found one that is a TRUE Transformer that also came in a Happy Meal. What a memory trip.
Do you have any toys that bring back memorable moments for you?

I have all my old matchbox cars from when I was little. I also have my old Fisher Price farm and school house from back when Fisher price was still mostly wood with just the people being plastic. My kids now play with all these toys that were once mine. I love it. I also have my first wooden blocks that had letters on them. I am so glad my mom saved all this stuff. I make sure now that I don't give or sell all my kid's stuff as soon as they outgrow it. I am going to make sure I keep a stash so I can pass it back down to them.

My Mom saved a pull toy of mine, and I remember it. It's so neat to see your kids play with toys that belonged to you. It makes me think my childhood wasn't that far off.
